Generational Investment in Pittsburgh’s Philanthropy
For generations, the Hunt family has supported The Pittsburgh Foundation and the broader civic fabric of Pittsburgh through sustained philanthropic giving. That legacy includes partnering on the Foundation’s new headquarters at 912 Fort Duquesne Boulevard, creating a modern home for civic leadership in the heart of the Cultural District. The building reflects a shared belief that carefully reinvested capital can serve investors while giving mission-driven institutions the space they need to strengthen communities and advance equity.

The Roy A. Hunt
Foundation
The Roy A. Hunt Foundation is a Pittsburgh-based family foundation that continues the Hunt family’s long history of investing in people and place. The Hunt Foundation was established by Roy and Rachel Hunt in 1951. The Roy A. Hunt Foundation was created by Roy A. Hunt’s will in 1966, and the two merged in 1994. Since inception, the foundation has distributed more than $135 million in grants 1951 through its predecessor funds and today’s Roy A. Hunt Foundation. Its core purpose is to improve the quality of life in the communities it serves, with a primary focus on Pittsburgh and Boston.
Guided by Hunt family trustees, the foundation supports initiatives in Youth Violence Prevention, Community Development, and the Environment, along with giving circles focused on International Development, Veterans, Opportunity and Inclusion, and Community Farming. While the work reaches beyond Western Pennsylvania, it is grounded in strong local leadership and community-driven partnerships.
This same long view informs Elmhurst’s approach to real estate stewardship. The foundation’s philanthropy and Elmhurst’s investment work on separate tracks, but both reflect a shared commitment to healthy neighborhoods, long-term relationships, and opportunities that can endure across generations.
